How much fish should we be eating?

You can count on Captain Findus to help you meet the recommendation of eating fish twice a week!

The global and European recommendations

The World Health Organisation recommends that we regularly eat fish (1-2 servings per week), and that servings should ideally provide omega 3 fatty acids. This is because omega 3 fatty acids are ‘essential’- they can’t be made in our body, so we have to eat them in our diet.

The U.S Department of Agriculture and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Dietary Guidelines recommend that we should be eating two servings of fish per week.  Fish is a nutrient dense high protein food that has low levels of fat, saturated fat, sodium and calories compared to other foods, which is why they recommend that 20% of our total protein intake should come from fish.
